Angelina versus Jennifer: Whose Man did it best?

A year that saw multiple whirlwind romances also gave rise to one of the biggest wedding showdowns in recent memory. We are talking about the dueling weddings and dueling rings of Jennifer Anniston and Angelina Jolie. Ever since Anniston and Pitt split in 2005 and details emerged that there were questions about the timing of the first Jolie/Pitt hook up, the three have been forever linked and their weddings will be no different.

The Rings

Naturally as soon as Anniston’s rep confirmed the engagement rumors the comparisons began.  Anniston’s ring is estimated to be between 8 or 9 carats while Jolie’s ring is said to be 16 carats. Both rings have an estimated value of $500,000. Can you say coincidence? Jennifer’s ring is an oval shape while Jolie’s ring is more of an oblong shape similar a square cut emerald. Just like their own fashion style, the rings could not be more different from one another.

The Proposal

For Jolie and Pitt, the family that proposes together stays together. Pitt proposed to Jolie on an April afternoon. Once the ring that Pitt personally designed was ready for viewing, he gathered all 6 children together and told Jolie that he had a little present for her. As she unwrapped the gift and realized what it was, the tears began to flow. After the ring was placed on her finger, she took time to show each child the ring individually. It was a joyous occasion for the entire family. Justin however kept things low key when he proposed to Jennifer Anniston on a Friday evening in New York. He presented her with her ring while the couple was celebrating his birthday dinner. After tearing up, the two quietly shared the news with their families. They released a simple statement that was in line with their low key attitude to life.

Whether you are Team Anniston or Team Jolie, one thing is for sure all eyes will be on the dueling brides to see who wore it best. The next face off will be the official rings and the dress and we can not wait.

Black diamonds have been taking the jewelry market by storm along with other fancy diamond colors like canary yellow and pink this year.  Celebrities are stepping out in opposing fashion to what is typically seen on the red carpet.  They are saying out with the old, classic white diamonds and in with the new, fancy and chic black diamonds.

It only seems natural that black diamonds would become as popular as their best-selling white counterparts.  After all, black and white have been classic choices for celebrities and women worldwide who want to exude elegance when they appear at whatever event they are attending.  These celebrities have taken a risk by adorning their skin with such a bold color choice in jewels and, for most, their risk has paid off.

Perhaps one of the best known celebrity names since Sex and the City began to air, Sarah Jessica Parker has been a fashion icon to keep your eye on for years.  This year is no different as she continues to prove that different can be better.  Perhaps it was, indeed, her role on Sex and the City 2 that began her iconic look comprised of black diamonds.  Whatever the reason, fashion watchers worldwide are commending her breakout style in such a bold diamond choice.

While many of us already know that rose gold is not pure gold and instead it is an alloy made up of both gold and copper of varying percentage based on the depth of the color pink desired, celebrities have made no secret of their love of this novel gold color.  If celebrities want to show off their level of wealth through their jewelry, rose gold may not be the best way to achieve this desired end as it still does run more inexpensively than solid gold.  However, celebrities have also been touting white gold for years and that, too, in most cases is an alloy of gold and silver.  So, who on the red carpet (or elsewhere) is showing off their love of this new pink-hued gold?

 Witherspoon was recently seen walking the red carpet at a How Do You Know photo call wearing over $13,000 in just a rose gold necklace alone.  Irene Neuwirth, the necklace designer, combined onyx and rose gold in this beautiful long circular necklace available for $13,180 at Landsberg Jewelers.  Witherspoon’s choice to wear a black and rose gold necklace over a black dress might be seen as a bad choice by some because the onyx gold in the necklace will blend into the dress behind it.  However, it does allow the beautiful rose gold to shine center stage.

 When Leann Rimes became engaged to her former-lover-turned-fiancé Eddie Cibrian, the tabloids were abuzz with shock and awe at the couple’s audacity.  If Cibrian proposing to Rimes just shy of three months after his divorce to former wife Brandi Glanville wasn’t a statement enough, her $85,000 engagement ring certainly was.  Cibrian spared no expense for Rimes’ platinum band showcasing a 5 carat oval diamond encased in a rose gold fleur-de-lis.

So, despite the fact that some jewelry aficionados might snub their nose at any gold other than pure gold, celebrities are displaying their love for this novel pink-hued gold and pairing it with some interesting fashion choices.  And, what’s more is that it is becoming clear that rose gold is capable of being paired with a myriad of wardrobe color choices.

Throughout the years, jewelry fashion fluctuates just like clothing fashion.  White gold, platinum, sterling silver and the like have often been referred to as cold metals, rather than the warmer hues of yellow and rose gold.  Despite the fact that white gold and metals of similar colors seem to have dominated the jewelry scene in the last twenty years or so, yellow gold is still the most popular gold sold and worn today.  However, those who prefer yellow gold will also be comforted by the fact that our society’s elite has been affirming the shift back to yellow gold as a popular engagement and wedding ring metal.

Roosevelt decided to forbid private ownership of gold coins, certificates, and bullion in the United States in 1933, the value of the gold held by the Federal Reserve rose from $8 to $12 billion in just four years.  Gold is also considered the color of royalty in England.  Even in the Olympics, athletes contend for the gold medal, not silver or bronze.  While white gold and platinum sure had their run of popularity, it seems as though yellow gold may be coming back in style for celebrities and average American brides to be alike.

Celebrities behaving badly is certainly nothing new. Not too many days go by with a new scandal erupting out of Hollywood with sordid tales of cheating, lying and jewelry buying. Wait…jewelry buying? Yes. It seems that when you have an unlimited budget, the best way to avoid the wrath of your significant other after an affair is to buy her a ridiculously expensive piece of jewelry. It’s a good thing he is rich because, after his latest indiscretion, Justin felt the need to buy his number one girl something shiny to help her forget about the other women in his life.

He shelled out $250,000 for an amazing diamond necklace with matching bracelet. Tabloids say her family was thrilled by the purchase because it proves that Justin is finally ready to settle down. Really? Is that what it proves? Some would think it just proves he has a ton of money.

Surely, celebrity apology jewelry will continue to make the news. It might be hard to imagine a piece of jewelry being enough to make you stay in a relationship with a cheater. But, then again, you’ve never been given an apology of an 8-carat purple diamond.
